New England Fairs

September 24th, 2007 by Critty

There’s something about New England in the fall that is hard to explain to someone who has yet to experience it.  The weather slowly cools.  Different smells come into the air.  The atmosphere completely changes.  Although it marks the ending of the summer, It always stirs up new curiosities in me.  One thing i love about the fall is all of the local fairs.

Most of the towns around me are all woods. At least a few times each fall one of them has a fair.  Farmers come to showcase their livestock and produce. Tractor pulls apparently are a real big thing.  Then you got the travelling carnies!!

I’m a sucker for rides. I know fairs happen all over America. I know that it is technically fall in every state. But fuck. Each year i am reminded as to why i still live here. It’s just fuckin special.

New presents are fun!

September 11th, 2007 by Critty

So i got some good stuff for my birthday.  One of them being the macro lens I’ve been wanting.

The very first thing i needed to settle was the dollar bill. You know that little shape popping out from the number 1 in the upper right hand corner of the dollar bill?  Some people say it’s an owl. some people say it’s a spider who spun the “webs” all over the dollar bill.

Finally i feel closure.

Blob on dollar bill

It’s just a blob.  just a blob.

here is the insides of one of my birthday cards. The kind that sing when you open them. i ripped the battery and circuit board out.

Getting Lost

Mega Maze entrance

9/3/2007  Davis’ Mega Maze, Sterling, MA.

The Mega Maze has been adopted as tradition over these last few years.  Every year i take a whole week off for my birthday, and I’m not happy about it unless i get to go to the Mega Maze.  It’s this really big attraction seriously….in the middle of nowhere. it’s surrounded by old, decrepid barns and fields.  maybe ten minutes away from my house.  This year’s theme was “lost Vegas” and it was fucking hard.  It took us three hours to make it through.

Mega Maze torture.

You see this sign as soon as you start the maze.  left or right….your first decision…hmmm.  What really sucks ass is coming across this sign an hour and a half into the maze, AFTER you’ve already found the halfway mark.  How the fuck did that happen?

DKC2

Two of my girlfriends and I Had waited outside, in the rain all night outside of Best Buy to get my hands on the Nintendo Wii for my boyfriend on opening day as a Christmas gift.  He loved it, but now I use it more than he does.

Wiimote

I’ve been playing with the virtual console, and the first game i bought was Donkey Kong Country 2.  I remember playing this game when I was a digruntled pre-pubescent teen.  I remember thinking how spectacular the awesome graphics were.  Now looking at it on my crappy TV screen, i see that i was very wrong about that.  I do find, however, that i continue to own face at this game, and i still remember where every single bonus round and DK coin is.  I could kick your ass at this game. Period.

Jesus christ….

 Town Hall

I need to take walks now.  I’ve been making the time for them for the last couple of weeks.  I still am trying to lose a couple of pounds since i stopped taking antidepressants, and god damn it i just need to fucking relax and get some thinking time in.

I walk by the town hall most nights.  An article in the local wannabe paper mentions a man who sings and plays acoustic guitar on the front steps.  He sings his praises to the Lord for saving him.  Because…i mean really we’re all just a bunch of lost sheep.  We’re all waiting to be found so we can run around with dirty clothes, bare feet, and emo bangs singing into the night.

As i take this picture…jesus freak happens to show up.  As i am playing with my camera, he is grinning at me.  Some teenage girl from across the street runs up to me and asks me if i am from Channel 5. I Tell her no, and that i am not here for the Jesus Freak.  I take my leave.
